HB 872 is a compromise bill which includes provisions from the Senate verison SB 321. This legislation requires secondary metal recyclers to obtain a permit from the sheriff every year. The sheriff is required to keep a record of all permits, the date of issuance, as well as the name and address of the permit holder. All of the information must be entered into a statewide electronic database created by the GBI. The sheriff may impose a reasonable permit fee. Click here to see a summary of the legislation. This bill was signed by the Governor on April 16, 2012.
